Rörstrand was founded in 1726 under the vision of German porcelain manufacturer Johann Wolff at Rörstrand Castle in Stockholm.

Rörstrand, Europe’s second oldest ceramic brand, has been designing dinnerware collections for almost 300 years. Initially, Rörstrand was strongly inspired by the cobalt blue decorations from China and other countries.

At the end of the 19th century, Rörstrand experimented successfully with new materials such as bone china and feldspar.

Increasingly, the success grew, and with it, the production. Rörstrand became one of the ten largest Swedish companies.  In the 1950s, the company employed more than 1500 people, and prominent designers and artists left their mark on the company. Classics like the Old Höganäs decor were created during that time. Today, you can experience this rich history firsthand in the Rörstrand Museum in Lidköping.
